American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry - AACAP
About the organization
The mission of AACAP is to promote the healthy development of children, adolescents, and families through advocacy, education, and research, and to meet the professional needs of child and adolescent psychiatrists throughout their careers.
For over 65 years, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) has maintained a history of working to improve transparency. At every level, we work to ensure that all children and adolescents living with mental illnesses receive treatment of the highest caliber.
AACAP continues to be diligent about making the process of assessing conflicts of interest easier. We are proud of AACAP's policy to list all sources of funding, as well as the amount, organization, and purpose, in every Treasurer's Report. For many years, we have enforced strict guidelines on pharmaceutical support that define how and when donations can be made to AACAP and under what conditions.
Parenting a child with a mental illness can be incredibly difficult and sometimes frustrating. Families obtaining treatment for children with mental illnesses should be applauded. Comprehensive treatment, tailored for the individual child, is essential for best outcomes. Children’s mental illnesses are real, common, and treatable. We encourage families to advocate for their children and demand treatment of the highest quality.
